The break-even math
If your time is worth $50 an hour, a $20 plan pays for itself when it saves you 24 minutes a month ($20 ÷ $50 = 0.4 hours). At $25 an hour, it needs to save 48 minutes. A second $20 plan has to save another 24 minutes (at $50 an hour) on top of the first.

Our rule
Start free. When you hit the free limit on real work more than once a week, pay for one, not both. Consider annual billing only after two paid months, once you know you'll keep it. (Only Claude Pro offers annual billing; ChatGPT Plus is monthly only.)

Usage limits change: OpenAI says Plus limits "may vary based on system conditions". We don't compare which assistant is better. Test both free plans on your own tasks before you pay.
